The Genomics-enabled Learning Health System (gLHS) Network was established in September 2024 to identify and improve approaches for clinical integration of genomic medicine interventions in a virtuous learning health system cycle of implementation, assessment, refinement, and re-implementation. The rapid incorporation and evaluation of genomic-informed care is enhanced through the collaboration of multiple network sites to increase the adoption of evidence-based genomic interventions and assess the impact on delivery of care.

Over a span of five years, the gLHS Network will identify genomic medicine intervention projects and implementation strategies most suitable for network-wide implementation, use these strategies to implement 2-4 genomics focused Learning Healthcare System projects, and develop and refine successful implementation strategies to share broadly with other interested groups and institutions.

The key goals of the gLHS Network are:

  • Compiling and disseminating the best available Learning Health Systems implementation strategies
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of strategies through intervention projects
  • Improving approaches for clinical integration of genomic medicine interventions through learning health system cycles of implementation, assessment, and refinement
  • Improving integration of genomic information into EHRs and its transportability to other systems
  • Enhancing interoperability of genomic findings across systems
  • Ensuring the applicability of network tools and resources in resource limited settings

July 2025: Selection of second network project – Point of Care Cardiomyopathy Genetic Testing

February 2025: Selection of first network project – Increasing Germline Genetic Testing for Patients with Cancer

The gLHS Network is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which includes the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and National Cancer Institute (NCI). Please see the NIH website for specific award information about the gLHS Network.
